I would be too pretentious if I’d title this post “All about…” because my journey into baby solids is just in the beginning and I feel like I’m still lost most of the time. But after baby boy eating solids for 2 months and me (and his pediatrician) seeing him grow up healthy and happy I might be doing things right for now.
Yesterday I took him to a nutritionist to get some more tips and I realized I really have a lot of information on how to feed my baby with vegan food. To be honest, it doesn’t seem too different from any other diet and lifestyle right now. I know my biggest challenge will be when he goes to pre-school. So far he’s eating a lot of vegs and fruits and he loves everything.
He’s a good eater. He was always hungry and it’s not different now. He has lunch and dinner and the other three meals are with breast milk. Here’s the list of vegs and fruits he’s eating so far, with 7 and a half months of age:
– butternut squash
– orange juice
– peach will be tried today
One thing that still makes me confused is that the way people weans babies is very different from one country from another and I see myself in a mixed type of weaning. Most of the time I’m following the Brazilian tips, adjusting them to the fresh, organic food I can find here. Plus some other concepts that I learned here in Italy, like I use baby rice and another mix of corn and tapioca to prepare the food and a Italian pasta for babies. I also add a small spoon of extra virgin olive oil to his lunch.
Some days he will eat more, others less but I’m not stressed with this, he’s really growing (some people say he’s fat :P) and he’s happy. Somedays he’ll want more of my milk and less food, others he’ll be more than happy with the food. He’s almost 8 months already and some new ingredientes and food will be introduced to him soon! I want to give him bread, red lentils, a light version of hummus and linseed oil (for Omega 3). I’m giving him (sometimes) a vegan supplement of Vitamin D too.
One thing that I realized is that I learn more talking to my mum friends than anything else. Sharing experiences is the mos precious tool I’ve found to wean my baby. And I’m blessed to have all these lovely vegan mums around the world who are happy to share their experiences and make the life of my small vegan easier. Please feel free to write tips and give me more links to read and learn
