November 1st is World Vegan Day and also the first day of the World Vegan Month. What does it mean exactly? That this is a period to get to know more about being vegan, to educate yourself and try a cruelty free lifestyle. Non-human animals need our respect and compassion always but it is good to have one month even more dedicated to help them.
I went vegan in 1997, in October, and back then I had no idea about the World Vegan Day or Month. I knew very little about animal rights, cooking and eating vegan, living a cruelty lifestyle. But I took the decision and never looked back. Sixteen years later I still consider it a “work in progress”, a “learning process”. There is aways something to know about how the world uses – and abuses – of animals, about products that seem okay but hide animal cruelty at some point of their production, about what people are capable to do with animals and about how we can construct a more respectful and peaceful world. And it is NEVER late to start this process. So, today, inspired by two amazing campaigns that I will share here with you, I would also like to invite you to our World Vegan Month small challenge: please considering GOING VEGAN FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER, write about your experience and send it to us. We want to share your story with the world. In December we will publish here all stories we receive.
Sounds inspiring but hard to know how to give the first step? Check out The Vegan Society pledge and the Animal Aid Vegan Challenge for inspiration:
The Vegan Society Vegan Pledge: “The Vegan Society offers a Vegan Pledge scheme for non-vegans who would like to try veganism for 7 days or 30 days. If you’re interested in becoming vegan or trying vegan living the Vegan Pledge is for you.” Please check here for information and help.
Animal Aid Great Vegan Challenge 2013: “Last year was our first ever Great Vegan Challenge and it was such a huge success that we’re running it again this November and making it even bigger and better! The idea behind the Great Vegan Challenge is simple. You pledge to go vegan for the whole of November, and we make it is as easy, fun and engaging as possible.” Please access here for all information and help.
Start with one month and you will see how amazing it is to go vegan and stay vegan! And get in touch with us, we will love to hear from you and publish your experience.
