It might sound like just a simple vegan cookie dough but Eat Pastry will make you
change all your concepts about pastry!
When I first became vegan, I experienced some moments of panic because I hadn’t yet gotten the hang of cooking. It took some trial and error to discover which frozen and pre-made vegan foods I actually liked. After sampling several different brands of packaged cookies, I realized I was craving something that tasted more homemade. I’ve always loved cookies right out of the oven. Since I wasn’t brave enough to attempt to make them from scratch, I resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn’t be having any for a while. I was out shopping one day and I noticed Eat Pastry Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough on the shelf in the refrigerated section. At that point I was used to reading labels and being disappointed by hidden non-vegan ingredients, so I was thrilled when I saw that it was indeed vegan. When I got home I suddenly realized I could eat it straight out of the container without worrying about food poisoning (the package even says so), and I plowed through about half a tub in one sitting. I managed to gather up what was left of my self-control and actually baked the rest to share with my family.
I live in a household with three non-vegans. While my husband and mom are very supportive, my dad still loves to make fun of whatever I’m eating, so I have made it my mission to try to trick him into eating vegan food as often as possible. I know something is good when he starts arguing that it can’t possibly be vegan. When I stopped eating the raw dough out of the tub and actually baked the rest of the cookies, they were gone in under ten minutes. Everyone loved them, even my dad, who (true to form) didn’t believe they were vegan. Eat Pastry cookies are now popular in my house, and because they have seven different varieties such as Chocoholic Chip, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, and Oatmeal Raisin Chocolate Chip, there is something for everyone.
About a year after I became vegan I discovered that I was gluten intolerant. I was cooking at that point so it was bit easier, but I again went through moments of panic as I had to learn how to eat both vegan AND gluten free. Fortunately, I didn’t have to worry about not having cookies, because Eat Pastry makes Gluten Free Chocolate Chip, Gluten Free Snickerdoodle, and Gluten Free Sugar Momma cookie dough. Unlike a lot of other gluten free cookies that are dry and fall apart, they hold together perfectly and taste nearly identical to the regular versions. It is amazing raw too; as I write this there is a container in my refrigerator that is 3/4 empty because I keep sneaking spoonfuls here and there.
In addition to being gluten free, the Snickerdoodle and Sugar Momma cookie dough is also soy free. Their products are made in a dedicated vegan facility, and they have verified that their supplier uses sugar that hasn’t been processed through bone char. On their website, they state that their products contain “no eggs, no dairy, no preservatives, no processing, no fillers, NO GMOs, and no funny business.” Although they are not certified organic, they do use as many organic ingredients as they can. Their dedication to quality is evident by the fact that each container I buy is just as amazing as the last.
One word of advice-don’t follow them on Facebook unless you want to have insatiable cookie cravings every day. They recently posted pictures of french toast made with their cookie dough, blueberry muffins made with their cookie dough, and a german chocolate ice cream cake cookie sandwich. In addition to mouthwatering recipe ideas, they also post regular giveaway opportunities and information about where to buy their products.
